Coaching, Chiropractic & Connection: What Actually Drives Results in Health
I recently sat down with Nicholas Natt, someone I get to see work every day inside the gym, and honestly, someone who brings a different level of perspective to coaching.
Nick has a background in bodybuilding and has built a strong presence in that space, but what stands out more than anything is how he works with people. Whether it’s competitive athletes, everyday gym members, or someone walking in for the first time, he has a way of meeting people where they are.
And throughout our conversation, one thing kept coming up.
Connection.
Not in a vague or surface-level way, but in how much it actually impacts whether someone gets better, stays consistent, or falls off completely.
It’s easy to think results come down to having the right plan. The right exercise, the right adjustment, the right protocol. And those things matter. But in practice, they’re usually not the reason someone succeeds or doesn’t.
What I’ve seen, and what we talked about a lot in this conversation, is that people need to feel understood first.
Why Feeling Understood Comes First
If someone feels like just another number, it’s hard for them to fully buy in, even if the plan is perfect.
That shows up a lot in chiropractic. I’ll hear people say they’re nervous to come in, and I get it. If you think a stranger is going to walk up and manipulate your body, that’s not exactly a relaxing thought.
That’s why the first visit isn’t just about treatment. It starts with a conversation. Understanding what’s going on, what your goals are, how your body is moving, and making sure you actually feel comfortable in the space.
Once that’s there, everything else tends to work better.
Coaching and Chiropractic Aren’t That Different
This is something Nick and I kept coming back to.
Despite his background in bodybuilding, where the focus is often performance and aesthetics, his approach with clients isn’t just about programming or pushing intensity. It’s about building a relationship first, then guiding someone toward their goals from there.
Whether someone is coming in for pain or trying to improve performance, they’re not just looking for instructions. They’re looking for direction, clarity, and some level of reassurance that they’re on the right path.
That’s where communication becomes just as important as the actual work.
Something as simple as explaining what’s coming next, what the plan is, or what to expect on the next visit can completely change how someone experiences care.
Without that, people can feel uncertain, even if your intentions are good. And that uncertainty can affect the trust you’ve built.
Small Shifts, Not Extreme Changes
Another piece we touched on is how often people think change needs to be extreme.
In reality, most people don’t need to flip their entire life upside down. They need small shifts that they can actually stick with.
For one person, that might be getting back into a routine. For someone else, it might be something as simple as drinking more water or being more consistent with movement.
Those things sound small, but they matter. And when people feel supported instead of judged, they’re a lot more likely to keep going.
Where Results Actually Come From
At the end of the day, it’s not just about what you do for someone. It’s how you guide them through the process.
If there’s trust, if there’s clear communication, and if the person feels like you actually understand what they’re going through, the results tend to follow.
That’s where coaching and chiropractic really overlap, and it’s something I’m continuing to learn and refine every day in practice.
